Peter Crouch's savage nickname for Abbey Clancy and her admission about 'separate lives'

Pundit and ex-England and Liverpool footballer Peter Crouch playfully revealed the two-word nickname he's given his wife Abbey Clancy. The 44 year old Crouch and 40-year-old Clancy have been married since 2011 and together for 20 years, and have two sons and two daughters together.

Their successful marriage is partly due to their individual hobbies, which provide them with personal space. They've also collaborated on The Therapy Crouch podcast, demonstrating their ability to have a laugh together, even when teasing one another.

Crouch unveiled the surprise nickname for Clancy during a 2023 appearance on Capital Radio along with That Peter Crouch Podcast co-host Chris Stark. "On the podcast I do with Chris, we have a nickname for you that I haven't told you," he disclosed.

"And that nickname is San Marino. And the reason behind that is because San Marino is a footballing nation that hasn't... that isn't very good."

Clancy was left puzzled by the comment, leading Crouch to deliver the punchline related to the tiny nation's frequent goal concessions: "And they kick off every 10 minutes!" As Crouch erupted into laughter, his wife could only respond with a smile and a sarcastic "that's nice".

While Clancy didn't seem to know how to respond to that playful jab, the couple's marriage remains strong, marked by quality time together and separate pursuits. "We've totally grown together over the years," she told OK! in March 2025.

"When we look back at our wedding day, some of the choices we've made, some things we've done in the past, we're like, 'Bloody hell, who were we then? !' But today? We're still in sync. We've got the same interests and the same things make us laugh. It's a really happy time for us at the moment.

"We've totally grown together over the years. We honestly do everything together, except work. Actually, even work, because we have our podcast.

"I don't need 'space' from Peter – unless I'm ill, like I am at the minute, because he's a c**p nurse and I want him to go away! He's useless then. We love hanging out together with our friends, going on date nights. Whatever we're doing, we always have a laugh. I think that's really helped us."

However, she quipped in a separate podcast episode: "We live separate lives now. He goes to golf and I go horse riding, and then we meet at the end."

"I don't think there's anything wrong with that," Crouch responded. "Like, not every day, because we need to do stuff together as well. But I think some part of the week, I think that's a totally healthy relationship."

Clancy was in complete agreement with her husband's sentiments, stating: "It is, because I've never been happier."
