This is how this big fraud is being done
According to recent reports, many people have experienced that loan or credit score activities are being done in their name without their knowledge, due to which there are cases of fraudsters using Aadhaar card details. Misuse of Aadhaar card is a serious problem
Aadhaar is used in interactions for financial services, loans and banking. So if someone has your Aadhaar card details, he can use it in unauthorized ways for loans, credit cards, bank accounts etc. Such frauds are often exposed when the person receives a notice or information from the bank or credit agency that a loan or credit assignment has been made in his name, even though he has not taken any such.
How to check from mobile
The most reliable way is to check the credit report. You can check your credit report for free by visiting the websites of major credit bureaus like CIBIL, Equifax or Experian. Fill the required information → Perform appropriate OTP verification → View all loan, credit card, and balance details associated with your name in the report. If the report shows a loan you never took, it could be a sign of fraud.
How to check through mobile banking/bank app
Today, many banks and financial institutions also provide the facility to customers to provide information about their account and loan status through mobile apps or online portals. Log in to the bank app/website. Verify with Aadhaar OTP. See which loans are active in your name. This method is quite simple and fast and you can do it in minutes.
If loan appears to be misused then take immediate action
If any unknown/fake loan is found during investigation, then immediately do the following: – Contact the bank or company – File a complaint on the official complaint portal of RBI – File a report at the nearest Cyber Crime Cell/Police Station. Filing a complaint in time not only prevents damage to the credit score, but also makes it easier to prevent financial loss.
Precautions while sharing Aadhaar details
Share Aadhaar card information with anyone only if it is a trusted website, bank, government portal or official medium for the KYC process. – Give OTP only to official entities – Check mobile number linking regularly – Use lock/unlock feature of Aadhaar if possible. Even small precautionary steps can save from big frauds.
