Roger Federer was left shellshocked after Andre Agassi produced a stunning tweener during their exhibition match at the Australian Open. Six years following his final appearance at the Rod Laver Arena, Federer is back on the courts of Melbourne.

Federer and four-time AO champion Agassi teamed up for a doubles match against Australian tennis icons Pat Rafter and Lleyton Hewitt. And midway through the first set, Agassi produced a stunning tweener that was timed to perfection - unfortunately the ball was already out before the American icon's brilliant shot.

Federer was initially shocked by what he had just witnessed, then cracked a smile before high-fiving his partner. With all four players wearing microphones during the game, Agassi could be heard joking with Federer and telling him to 'Do what I say' and regularly sledging their opponents.

Federer was also heard shouting 'what' after Agassi hit a stunning ace in the second set of the glitzy exhibition.

"It is so wonderful to be back in front of all of you," Agassi said before the game. "And if I win tonight, it will be because of my partner."

Speaking in a midgame interview, Federer said: "My parents are here and we are having a full big moment because we have great memories from Melbourne.

"To relive them again and go to the same places is fun. I told my dad even though he said it is so far that he has to come one more time and he is here. I'm very happy that dad made it."

Told he looked fighting fit on court, Agassi replied: "That is a little ambitious and generous to say the least. I am just thrilled to be on the court with two hall of famers and Roger.

"I mean you have got to respect the process and it hasn't happened yet. It is an honour to be back out here and it is an honour to be back. Plenty of reasons to be nervous and Novack (Djokovic) showing up only adds to it."

Previewing the tournament, Federer backed Carlos Alcaraz to pull off a "crazy" achievement. The 22-year-old Spaniard is bidding to become the youngest man ever to complete the career Grand Slam of all four major titles, having claimed two crowns each at the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open.

He is yet to go beyond the quarter-finals at Melbourne Park but goes into the year's first slam as the top seed ahead of his great rival Jannik Sinner. And Federer believes: "It's like Rory (McIlroy) going for the Masters, those things are tough.

"But at his young age to be able to complete the career Grand Slam would be crazy. Let's see if he is able to do crazy this week, and I hope he does because for the game that would be an unbelievably special moment.

"But there's another hundred and whatever players saying, 'We don't agree with those plans', so they'll try everything to stop him."
