The debate has intensified after Team India’s crushing defeat in the second ODI played between India and New Zealand. This defeat by seven wickets exposed many layers of Indian performance, especially questions were raised on the quality of the middle order and bowling. In the match, Indian bowlers could take only three wickets in the entire 50 overs, due to which the Kiwi batsmen looked comfortable throughout.
After the match, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan pointed the finger directly at a senior player, citing the main reason for the defeat. Pathan believes that this match slipped from the hands of Team India due to one particular reason and that proved to be decisive.
Irfan Pathan’s big allegation on the defeat of the second ODI
Irfan Pathan blamed the performance of Ravindra Jadeja for India’s defeat. According to Pathan, Jadeja’s slow batting put a brake on the team’s pace. Especially in the middle and death overs, the required pace was not visible and India had to suffer the consequences of this.
Ravindra Jadeja’s strike rate became the biggest reason for the defeat.
Pathan clearly said on his YouTube channel, “Where was the match lost? KL Rahul played at a strike rate of 90, but Jadeja could play at a strike rate of only 60 while scoring 27 runs.” Jadeja entered the crease in the 24th over, when Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli were out early. The responsibility was to manage and pace the innings, but he could hit only one boundary in his innings of 27 runs on 44 balls.
Ravindra Jadeja has not scored a half century in ODI since 2020
Irfan Pathan also expressed concern about Jadeja’s figures. He told that Ravindra Jadeja has not scored any half-century in ODI cricket since 2020. The conditions in bowling were also not good, only one wicket in the last five matches and an average of 200. According to Pathan, “These are very bad figures for any senior player.”
