First tariffs, then war and now the so-called 'week'. The path on which US President Donald Trump has embarked. No president in American history, no nation in the world or its head of state has seen walking on such a path. Now the Trump administration is asking for a contribution of at least $ 1 billion from countries wishing to get a permanent place in its new peace board. According to Bloomberg report, President Donald Trump will be its first president and he will decide the people to be invited as members. Decisions will be taken by majority vote, with each member state present having one vote, but all decisions will be subject to the approval of the President.
The draft proposal states that each member country will serve for a maximum of three years from the date of entry into force of this Charter, which can be renewed by the President. The three-year membership period will not apply to member states that contribute more than US$1 billion in cash to the Peace Board within the first year of entry into force of the Charter. Critics worry that Trump is trying to create an alternative or rival to the United Nations, which he has long criticized.
What work will the board do?
In the charter, this board is described as "an international organization that will strive to promote stability, restore credible and just governance, and ensure lasting peace in areas affected by or threatened by conflict. It will become official after the three member countries agree to the charter. The document said that Trump will also be responsible for approving the official seal of the group. However, White House officials have not given any official response on this.
European countries invited
Trump has invited several global leaders, including Argentina's Javier Milli and Canada's Mark Carney, to be part of a peace board for Gaza, which will be formed within the broader scope of his new peace board. The plan was immediately criticized by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said its details had not been coordinated with his country. Several European countries have been invited to join the peace board, according to people familiar with the matter. These people, on condition of anonymity, said that in the draft it appears that Trump himself will control the funds. Which would be unacceptable to most of the countries likely to come on board.
Voting will take place once a year
These people further said that many countries are strongly opposing Trump's draft charter and are working to collectively protest against the proposals. According to the draft, the Peace Board will hold voting meetings at least annually and “at such additional times and locations as the Chairman deems appropriate.” The agenda will be subject to the approval of the Speaker. The Peace Board will hold regular non-voting meetings with its Executive Board. Such meetings will be held at least once in three months.
Trump will have power
Trump will also have the right to remove any member, provided it can be vetoed by a two-thirds majority of the member countries. The charter states that the president must always designate a successor to the presidency. On Friday, the White House announced a first working panel ahead of the formation of the composite board, which will include Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
