Peace lilies, along with a variety of other plants, make great houseplants for several reasons. From purifying the air to reducing window condensation, introducing plants into the home can be highly beneficial. Peace lilies, known for their glossy green leaves and white flowers, also known as spathes, are one of the most popular plants, but they can be tricky to care for.

David Denyer, flower and garden expert at Eflorist, exclusively told Express.co.uk: "A peace lily flower will usually last for a month, or even two, with the proper care, before changing to black or brown.

"Peace lilies will flower in spring and autumn, so don't panic if you're not seeing any growth during the winter months, as this is when they slow down.

"However, there are steps you can take during winter to ensure you see longer blooms when spring comes around."

Flowering takes a lot of energy, so it's key that during the growing season, a peace lily is fed little and often.

The expert recommended using a balanced, water-soluble feed every few weeks between the months of April and October.

David added: "During winter, reduce this feeding to every four to six weeks to maintain your peace lily, so you aren't encouraging excessive growth or overwhelming.

"The best way to keep your peace lilies flowering for longer is to make sure they are cared for properly.

"If your peace lily is struggling to bloom at all, this usually means it's needing a bit more care and attention.

"You should consider if your plant is getting the right levels of sunlight, water, and humidity, and make any adjustments slowly to avoid shocking the plant."

Too much or too little of these "key elements" can be "damaging" for a peace lily, so it's best to "act slowly" when making any adjustments.
