Udupi: After ascending the Sarvajna Peetha, Sri Vedarvardhana Tirtha Sripada, the Paryaya Peethadhipati of Shirur Mutt of the Udupi Sri Krishna Math, said that guidance from senior seers of the AshtaMutts and cooperation from devotees are essential at every step during the two-year Paryaya period.

He was speaking while delivering his blessings at the Paryaya Durbar held at the Rajangana here on Sunday morning. Addressing the gathering, Sri Vedarvardhana Tirtha said performing the worship of Lord Krishna during the Paryaya period is equivalent to performing a great yagna. He noted that the Udupi Sri Krishna is not an ordinary form of Krishna, pointing out the symbolic significance of the whip and rope held by the deity.

He said the installation of Lord Krishna by Madhvacharya, regarded as an incarnation of Vayu, carries a special meaning. “The intention was not merely daily worship, but to spread the message of Krishna to the world,” he said, adding that service to the people should be treated as service to God.

The seer emphasised that the Supreme Being exists in everyone and called upon people to love all and work for the happiness of others. He said selfless devotion is essential in worship and noted that even a single tulsi leaf is sufficient for true devotion. Drawing a reference from tradition, he said while Lord Hanuman carried the Sanjeevini mountain with one hand, he brought flowers for worship using both hands, highlighting the importance of humility in devotion.

Sri Vedarvardhana Tirtha also stressed the need to preserve the Vedas, which existed even before the Ramayana and Mahabharata. He reiterated that as this is the first Paryaya being conducted by the Shiroor Math, constant guidance is necessary. He recalled that he undertook the worship of Lord Krishna only after receiving sanyasa deeksha from the seer of the Sodhe Math.

He concluded by expressing the hope that all devotees would strive for personal and spiritual improvement during the Paryaya period.
