Shaun Murphy and Kyren Wilson share a complicated relationship. After Murphy defeated then-world champion Wilson to secure his second Masters title in 2025, a feud developed between the two.

Wilson oddly labelled Murphy an "old man" and suggested he "needed the win more" following their match. Wilson also accused Murphy of being "unprofessional" in the aftermath, justifying his remarks by pointing to Murphy's "behaviour"during their final.

In a cryptic comment, 'The Warrior' stated that 'The Magician' "knows full well what happened" prior to the evening session of their game.

A stunned Murphy didn't hold backas he responded to Wilson's comments following their encounter at Alexandra Palace, questioning "how dare" Wilson tarnish his reputation.

Speaking on the Onefourseven Snooker Podcast, Murphy explained: "I was minding my own business this morning, in the barbers in Sheffield, you dust yourself off, you pay, and you leave, and you have a look at your phone. My phone had gone ballistic."

He continued: "Sat here, recording this with you now, I've got absolutely no idea what Kyren Wilson's talking about. None, no idea at all. I genuinely have no idea.

"We regrouped in the dressing room following the first session, we got changed, we went off into the car park, I ended up filling my car with washer fluid - that's how rock and roll we are - came back to the venue, got ready, and went to get ready to play the match.

"I've got no idea what Kyren's talking about. I've obviously been asked about it all day today, we've had the media day today in Sheffield, it's the first thing the journalists were asking and rightly so."

He added: "I must admit, I'm extremely disappointed in the behaviour of Kyren Wilson. I think he's had a really good year as world champion on and off the table.

"But I am extremely disappointed in him as a bloke, that if he's got something he has wanted to say to me since January and he's left it until this week to say it.

"Not only has he come out and said it but said half a story, or not even half a story, he hasn't had the bottle to call me out over whatever it is, and he's left everybody guessing.

"He had the audacity to call me unprofessional and question my reputation. How dare he do that? I'm very disappointed in his behaviour and when I see him face-to-face, I'll be telling him, because that's not how I operate and that's not how real people operate. I'm very, very disappointed in his behaviour."

After losing 10-7 to Murphy, Wilson said: "No disrespect to Shaun but he's turned into an old man now, so he needs this more than me.

"I'm 33 years old, coming into my prime. I'm having an amazing season. Runner-up is obviously not what I want to be, but listen we've got Berlin next week so I'll go and smash it in Germany.

"I just made it too easy for Shaun today, I threw him in the balls too many times. You can't do that with how well Shaun has been playing this week.

"If the red goes in at 8-7 that could have been my clearance for 8-8 and you might have been looking at a different scoreline. Every credit to Shaun, making a century to finish for the fans. So well done to Shaun."

Wilson is back in the Masters final this time around after seeing off Wu Yize in a dramatic semi-final. He will face John Higgins, who overcame Judd Trump. Murphy, meanwhile, went out in the first round, with the defending champion have succumbed to the aforementioned Wu.
