A classic western from the 1950s currently has an incredible score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and despite its impeccable score and fans raving over the action-packed film, many feel that the film hasn't received the recognition it deserves.

Winchester '73, produced by Aaron Rosenberg, played a significant role in shaping the Western Genre and is highly commended by both critics and fans. The Rotten Tomatoes synopsis reads: "Lin McAdam pursues notorious outlaw Henry Dutch Brown into Dodge City, Kansas. There, in an effort to flush out the criminal, McAdam enters a sharp-shooting contest and wins the top prize: the eponymous Winchester rifle.

"Brown, desiring the rifle for himself, sneaks into McAdam's room and makes off with it. After finding the rifle missing, McAdam chases Brown across the state and toward an epic confrontation."

Martin Chilton from the Daily Telegraph wrote: "Winchester '73 changed the way cinema audiences saw the Western, because it featured a more complex idea of the noble hero of the west -- a man plagued by personal problems and violent impulses."

Whilst Virginia Graham from The Spectator said: "I enjoyed every minute".

The 1 hour 35 minute film stars James Stewart, Shelley Winters, Dan Duryea and Stephen McNally, who have all been praised by viewers for their 'brilliant acting'. As well as the cast, the storyline and directing were also praised, with some fans even branding the film as their favourite.

One viewer wrote: "My favourite film of all time, interesting narrative, acting is amazing, one of Jimmy Stewart's greatest flicks."

Another fan, who named it one of their top 10 westerns, warned viewers against dismissing the film due to its black and white format and possibly slower pace compared to modern films.

They wrote: "One of my Top Ten Westerns! Jimmy is flawless as usual! Great story told in short burst fast fast-paced vignettes, moving the story along full of action...for those of you more used to the pace of current action movies, this oldie may hold your attention!

"Do not take offence, but it amazes me the people that will refuse to watch a movie if it is not in color-or beg off of older movies for lack of speed/action!"

If you're in doubt about watching it, then know that fans who have watched it multiple times, including one who has watched it at least three times, still consider it "an all-time favourite".
