Kirori Mal College , University of Delhi , observed Swami Vivekananda Jayanti and National Youth Day on January 12, with enthusiasm. The programme paid heartfelt tribute to Swami Vivekananda’s life and ideals, highlighting his message of youth empowerment , character building, discipline, and nation-building.
The highlight of the event was the inauguration of the statue of Swami Vivekananda at the Vivekananda lawn. The area was officially named as the Swami Vivekananda Complex , marking an important step towards preserving and celebrating his legacy on campus. The College Academic Auditorium was also renamed as the Swami Vivekananda Auditorium, dedicating the institution’s commitment to nurturing values of excellence, service, and leadership to Vivekananda.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was the chief guest of the event and unveiled the statue. The event was also attended by Prof. Balaram Pani, Dean of Colleges, University of Delhi, and Anil Gupta, social activist, as Guests of Honour. Prof. Dinesh Khattar, Principal, Kirori Mal College, and Prof. Vasuben Trivedi, Chairperson, Governing Body, were also present along with faculty members, administrative staff, and a large gathering of students.
In her address, Rekha Gupta inspired the students by sharing personal experiences and motivational reflections, urging them to remain focused on their goals while embodying the values of integrity, courage, and service. Her words resonated with the student community and reinforced the importance of youth as the driving force of development.
Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries emphasised the relevance of Swami Vivekananda’s teachings in today’s time, encouraging students to pursue excellence through hard work, discipline, confidence, and a strong moral foundation. The speakers highlighted Vivekananda’s inspirational role in awakening national consciousness and motivating young minds to contribute meaningfully to society. The day concluded on an inspiring and patriotic note, reaffirming the continuing relevance of Swami Vivekananda’s vision in shaping empowered, responsible, and determined youth committed to nation-building.
