Bengaluru: Yelahanka New Town police have arrested a man for allegedly breaking into a real estate office and stealing Rs 10 lakh in cash, reportedly to meet his brother’s hospital expenses.
The arrested accused has been identified as Ashok. Police said Ramachandra Chari runs Sri Lakshmi Venkateshwara Real Estate office in Yelahanka suburb. On January 3, around 11 am, Ramachandra Chari locked the office by pulling down the rolling shutter and left.
When he returned to the office at around 4 pm, he found that Rs 10 lakh kept in the table drawer was missing. He later lodged a complaint with the police, following which a case was registered.
Based on CCTV footage and information from informers, the police traced and detained the accused. During interrogation, Ashok allegedly confessed to the theft.
Police said the accused regularly visited the area to eat gobi near the office and had noticed where the office keys were kept. He allegedly used this knowledge to carry out the theft. The accused reportedly told the police that he spent the stolen money on his brother’s medical treatment. Police also stated that he is involved in several other cases.
