A 21-year-old woman died allegedly due to lack of timely medical treatment at the Malle Gowda District Hospital on Sunday, leading to a protest by her family members in front of the hospital with the body.
The deceased has been identified as Kavitha, a resident of Hosapete village in the taluk. According to the family, Kavitha was injured when a tree branch fell on her while she was plucking coffee berries.
When she was brought to the district hospital for treatment, no doctor was reportedly available. It is alleged that only a nurse and a compounder attended to her. The family claimed that without conducting any scan or X-ray, doctors merely applied a bandage and referred her to Shivamogga for further treatment.
However, Kavitha died on the way near Tarikere. Following her death, the grieving family members demanded that the district surgeon visit the spot and staged a sit-in protest in front of the hospital, accusing the hospital staff of negligence.
