Trams on a Metrolink line in a major UK city centre have come to a standstill after a BMW car became stuck on the tracks. The car became stuck close to the New Islington tram stop in Manchester, with trams stopped "until further notice".
There are currently no trams running between Piccadilly and Ashton-under-Lyne. Ancoats and Beswick councillor Alan Good, who saw the car being driven onto the tracks as he was waiting for a tram into town, told the Manchester Evening News: "I was at my local tram stop in New Islington, and a BMW just drove down the tram tracks. It obviously stopped because of the drop, might have busted a tyre. No way it's getting out without getting towed." It is understood that the BMW stuck on the track has been abandoned, while the occupants are believed to have been seen leaving the vehicle on foot.
