Amanda Owen has issued a health update for a beloved family member just months after a heartbreaking death. On Sunday (January 18), the Yorkshire Shepherdess took to Instagram to share a devastating update for their pet dog, Sprout. Sharing a series of snaps of her furry friend being tended to by the vets, she revealed that her perfect pooch has been going through a difficult time.
The Our Yorkshire Farm star penned: "Well, here's an update that I never thought I would be doing. Sprout [dog emoji], our lovely (often overlooked) terrier, had been behaving quite strangely of late. In fact, she became physically poorly, ending up at the veterinary surgery, as we thought that she was perhaps seriously ill, as she was behaving really strangely.
"Was unsettled, no appetite for food and life and refusing to even come inside the house! [shrugging emoji]. She would wander off, calling in at our neighbours' houses, albeit briefly, seeming listless, dull-eyed, and generally not herself at all [sad emoji].
"After weeks of this and wondering if she was going to fade away, we realised that actually what was wrong was relatively simple." It was at this point that the 51-year-old broadcaster revealed that her young terrier is stillgrieving the loss of her four-legged friend, Chalky.
The mum-of-nine added: "She was grieving [paws emoji] and searching for Chalky, her best friend, partner in crime, and full of foe at times [two dog emojis]. Apparently, there were medications that could be used to lift her, but we decided that this was not the cure!"
Chalky sadly passed away in October, with the doting mum sharing a snap of what appears to be the remains of Chalky in a personal wooden box. The box features colourful paint artwork and the words 'Chalky' written by paintbrushes.
Following news of Sprout's illness, fans flocked to the comments to share their heartache and offer advice. One user penned: "100% true. Grief can totally change a dog. Enjoy finding a new chum for her!" Another agreed: "Yes, she wants a friend [heart emoji]."
A third echoed: "Poor thing. Grief affects everyone. She needs another playmate. Good luck with her. Hope she gets over this in time. Sending much love [heart emoji]." Amanda is best known for her Channel 5 show, Our Yorkshire Farm, where she shares the highs and lows of farming.
