In the third ODI held at Holkar Stadium in Indore, Indian wicket-keeper and batter KL Rahul scored just one run off six balls, which was indeed his very early dismissal and it increased the pressure in India’s chase along with increasing the tension at the stadium during that time the left-arm spinner Jayden Lennox got him out with a soft dismissal in a crucial phase of the run chase in the series decider.
KL Rahul came in at No.5 with India in deep trouble while trying to get to a huge target of 338 runs. After the second ODI in which he had scored a gritty hundred, the batter who was in form had to make a partnership with Virat Kohli to keep India in the match.
He started scoring runs amidst Clarke's bowling in the 12th over, in which Shreyas Iyer got out, and encountered the bowler in the next over. KL Rahul while facing Lennox in the 13th over tried to play the ball to his off-side on the second last ball, but his effort was futile as the ball kept low off the wicket and he got into an awkward position.
He was doing the right thing trying to play with the bat farther away from his body but his front foot was stuck in the crease. The ball being a little later than he expected made him play an unconvincing shot and that brought the cover fielder into play. The ball came gently to Glenn Phillips who made a very difficult catch easy with his sure hands.

KL Rahul was in disbelief when he got out. He looked at the pitch for a moment and then walked to the pavilion. KL Rahul's wicket fell during the 13th over making it 71-4 for India. New Zealand was making efforts and the middle overs helped them to win a historic and first-ever ODI series here.
The wicket-keeper has been a consistent performer in ODIs middle order and the last 12 months have been great for him in this aspect. Dismissal for single run in the third ODI against New Zealand was his first time in the format since February 2025 that he got out in single digits.
KL Rahul's last occurrence of scoring less than ten runs in ODIs was in the opening ODI between England and India at Nagpur where Adil Rashid caught him out at two under difficult situations.
