Controversy is increasing at the international level regarding Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok. After Indonesia and Malaysia, now Philippines has also blocked Grok’s website. The government says that this AI platform has the ability to create obscene and objectionable images, in which special concern has been expressed regarding the content to children.

What does the Philippines government say?

The Philippines’ cyber security agency, the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center, is closely monitoring the matter and is preparing to negotiate with social media platform X. The Philippines government says that the pornographic and especially child pornography- features on Grok’s website pose a serious threat to the safety of citizens.

CICSC chief Renato Paraiso said that Internet service providers were ordered to block Grok’s website to prevent access to obscene material. He says that this step was very important for the safety of the countrymen.

However, Grok can still be used on social network X, which has become the biggest challenge for the government. Renato Paraiso said that just blocking websites is not enough, so the Philippines government wants to talk directly with representatives of X to stop the creation of obscene content by AI on the platform.

X did not respond

xAI is Elon Musk’s company. Musk has announced that Grok will no longer have the ability to create indecent photos of real people. However, X has not yet given any official response on this. When xAI was questioned about the Philippines decision, the company added to the controversy by simply responding “Legacy Media Lies.”

Earlier, Indonesia and Malaysia have also taken strict steps against Grok and AI-made obscene content. Indonesia took this step to protect women, children and society from fake pornographic material, while Malaysia warned of legal action against X and xAI. It is clear from this that strict steps are being taken in Asian countries to ban obscene and objectionable content to AI.
