A train derailment in southern Spain has resulted in 24 reported fatalities and 100 injuries, according to Spanish media. Two high-speed trains came off the tracks on Sunday, railway operator ADIF has confirmed.
Emergency services in Andalusia report that at least 25 individuals have sustained serious injuries. The accident took place near Adamuz, a town in the vicinity of Cordoba.
Rail network operator Adif verified the derailment, explaining that the Iryo 6189 service, which was travelling from Málaga to Madrid, left the track and collided with an adjacent line.
Spanish high-speed train operator Iryo confirmed the derailment on X. "The service had departed from Málaga at 18:40 and, at the time of the incident, approximately 300 people were on board," the statement read.
