New Delhi: We are all familiar with the two main Navratri festivals that are celebrated twice a year, but there are actually four Navratris that occur each year. One of the kinds is Gupt Navratri, which mainly falls in January, or the Magha month, known as Gupt Navratri, and this year the festival will start from January 19, 2026, on Pratipada Tithi of Shukla Paksha.

The sacred celebration dedicated to the ten Mahavidyas, Kali, Tara, Tripurasundari, Bhuvaneshwari, Chinnamasta, Tripur Bhairavi, Dhumavati, Baglamukhi, Matangi and Kamala, is considered a powerful time for worship and deep meditation. In Hindu tradition, performing rituals to these divine forms of the Goddess in the quiet and spiritually charged period of Magh Gupt Navratri is believed to bring extraordinary blessings and profound spiritual benefits.

Gupt Navratri 2026 rituals

  1. Take a bath early in the morning.
  2. Wear nice and clean clothes.
  3. Take a wooden plank and place the idol of Goddess Durga on it.
  4. Light a diya of pure desi ghee in front of the idol.
  5. Adorn the idol with a garland, dupatta, and sindoor.
  6. Take a water-filled kalash, spread some akashat and place the kalash on the top, covering with coconut.
  7. Do ghatsthapana by invoking the idol of Maa Durga.
  8. Perform puja to obtain the idol’s blessings after chanting Vedic mantras.
  9. Many devotees observe a fast for nine days.

Gupt Navratri 2026 significance

The festival holds great religious and spiritual significance. The main purpose of the nine days is to honour the goddess Durga in different forms. Devotees offer prayers to Maa Durga with Navratri celebrations four times a year. During Gupt Navratri, Goddess Durga is secretly worshipped, and this time the period is mainly associated with Tantra Vidhya.

During this period, Sadhaks and Tantriks worship Goddess Durga and take her blessings. Indulging in practices such as yoga, meditation and chanting, tantrokta and shabar mantras is a trick to honour Maa Durga and attain siddhis.
