Pakistan Super League (PSL) is now bringing a big change. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that there will be an auction of players from the 11th season of PSL to be held in 2026. Till now the draft system used to run for 10 seasons, but now like IPL, auction model is being adopted. IPL has adopted this method since 2008, which is 18 years old.

Historic step of auction in PSL

PCB said that this change is to increase competition, bring clarity and give players the opportunity to earn more. Now each team will be able to retain only 4 players. Earlier 8 players were retained. Also, rules like mentor, brand ambassador and right to match have been abolished.

The salary cap of the teams has also been increased to 1.6 million dollars i.e. around Rs 14.55 crore. This limit in IPL is Rs 125 crore, whereas in the first IPL auction in 2008, teams had $ 5 million.

League expanded with two new teams

PSL has now become a league with 8 teams. Recently two new franchises of Hyderabad and Sialkot were included. Their auction took place on January 8, 2026. Franchises made good bids for new teams. The first match of the league will start from 26 March 2026, which will run along with IPL 2026. Let us tell you, Faisalabad has also been made a new venue.

Inspired by the success of IPL

IPL is the richest and most popular cricket league in the world. PSL was trying to create its own identity, but now wants to increase competition by adopting the model of IPL. PCB believes that through the auction, players will go to the teams in a better way and the league will become more exciting. A team will now also be able to directly sign a foreign player who has not played in PSL 10.

Will the future of PSL change?

This change is a new phase for PSL. Leaving the draft system and adopting auction is like changing the style of the league. Fans hope that this will make the matches more exciting and the players will get better opportunities. This league, starting from March 26, along with the IPL, can spark a new debate in Asian cricket. PSL has now moved on the path of IPL, it remains to be seen how successful this move proves to be.
