New Delhi, 19 January. Condemning Jyotishpeeth Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwarananda Saraswati’s alleged prevention from bathing at the Sangam, the Congress on Monday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ‘triple engine’ government of insulting a saint and said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should intervene in the matter.

Party media department head Pawan Kheda also said that the whole country is seeing that under the BJP rule, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat gets ‘Z Plus’ category security, but a Shankaracharya is being treated like this. Speaking to reporters, he also claimed that if the Prime Minister does not intervene and apologize to Hindus, it will become clear that he is not a ‘Sanatani’ but a ‘Dhanatani’.

Khera said, “Narendra Modi has been in power for 12 years and by whose grace he is in power, the world is watching how he is being treated. Is the crime of Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand ji that he does not cheer you, condemns you, objects to the sanctity of the half-finished temple, raises questions on the mismanagement of the Maha Kumbh, in the lap of Mother Ganga during Covid. Let’s talk about floating bodies.”

He claimed, “The truth is that Narendra Modi is neither of any use nor of Ram.” Kheda said, “The tradition of ‘Shahi Snan’ in Magh Mela is an old one, which neither the British nor the Mughals stopped till date, but this government is creating obstacles.” He alleged that BJP people, hiding behind religion, fool everyone and take care of only the rich.

He said, “Whatever has happened, the Prime Minister should come forward and intervene, otherwise do not call yourself a Sanatani, you will remain a Dhanatani. The question is, will the Prime Minister apologize to the Hindus?” Last Sunday, a controversy broke out after Swami Avimukteshwarananda Saraswati and his supporters were allegedly stopped from going to the Sangam and some supporters were beaten up for protesting.

Superintendent of Police (Magh Mela) Neeraj Pandey said that Swami Avimukteshwaranand along with 200-250 supporters broke the barrier of bridge number two and entered towards the bathing ghat without any permission. At the same time, Shankaracharya’s media in-charge Shailendra Yogiraj strongly condemned this incident and said that the administration deliberately prevented Jagadguru Shankaracharya Jyotishapeethadhishwar Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati Ji Maharaj from taking bath and this incident was completely planned.
