Meal deals are a staple part of British culture, with the offer being widely available across supermarkets and stores, such as Boots, which pioneered it in the late 90s. The deal, which typically includes a main, such as a sandwich, wrap or pasta pot, a snack, including fruit pots, crisps, bars of chocolate, and a drink, offers an endless number of combinations for customers to choose from.
Though in recent years, meal deals have become more than just a quick lunch option. You'll find more and more people sharing their combination online, swearing that their favourites are the best option, and people aren't holding back their judgment on other options, as one American living in the UK found out the hard way.
His British flatmate shared a picture of his combo on the Meal Deal Rates forum on Reddit, where users all shared the same opinion, blasting his choice.
Alongside a picture of a classic veggie sushi, a mango fruit pot, and a Pepsi Max Lime, the flatmate wrote: "My American flatmate's first ever meal deal."
And Redditors were quick to judge the lunch option, with one saying he had the "tastebuds of a high school student in an anime", while another said the Pepsi and the mango clashed too much to ever be had together.
But one thing they some jokingly agreed on was that the man should be "deported", reports The Mirror.
One Redditor said: "Send them back". While another wrote: "F***'s sake. Deported/10."
Someone jokingly commented: "Hi, Sam from the Home Office here. Can you tell your flatmate we unfortunately had to terminate his visa? All the best."
Another, continuing the joke, added: "Hi Sam, just checking to make sure you followed up on this. And if we could get an update once they have been flown out of the country."
There were some who thought there was nothing wrong with the combination of items, but were more concerned that it wasn't filling enough to last someone from lunch until dinner.
One person noted: "This is more like a snack deal - like you need to tide you over from lunch to dinner." Another said: "Not enough to be filling, but it's still a solid 7/10 for me."
A third wrote: "Taking points off for the Pepsi and the fact I'd be hungry again within a couple of hours, but otherwise this is a solid choice. 6/10."
