silver on mcx
Silver futures prices on MCX have reached Rs 3,19,949 per kg and the commodity ETF has given returns of more than 25% in the first 20 days of 2026. Experts say that investors who have already invested can continue investing, while new investors can also make silver a part of their multi-asset portfolio.
strong demand for silver
According to Akshat Garg, Research and Product Head, Choice Wealth, new investors should invest about 510% of their total portfolio in silver ETFs. He says that in view of the strong demand for silver and its structural factors, existing investors should not exit the investment yet. He also said that if prices fall, it should be considered a buying opportunity for long-term investments.
According to Garg, both gold and silver are important for investors, because central banks are continuously buying, interest rates are expected to soften and industrial demand for silver is increasing rapidly. This year, out of total 29 funds based on silver ETF, 8 funds have given returns of more than 30%. Tata Silver ETF FoF has given the highest return of 32.29% so far, while Nippon India Silver ETF FoF has given 31.28% return. Axis Silver FoF has given 30.20% return and Bandhan Silver ETF has given 26.53% return.
invest slowly
According to the report of Tata Mutual Fund, despite the record rise in recent months, silver may remain strong, although the fluctuations will be high. Strong demand, supply shortage and stock issues are supporting the prices. In the report, investors have been advised to invest in silver through SIP or gradually, because this commodity is quite volatile.
In the last one year, Silver ETF has given returns of more than 200%. Tata Silver ETF remained on top, while Nippon India Silver ETF gave 212% return and UTI Silver ETF gave 206% return. According to Satish Dondapati, Fund Manager, Kotak Mutual Fund, in the last one year the price of silver has increased by more than 170%, while that of gold has increased by about 70%. Both are considered safe-haven assets, but silver is also an industrial metal, so it has more advantages in the current economic environment.
It has also been said in the report that silver getting the status of critical mineral in America, lack of supply and strong demand from investors are the major reasons for its rise. Apart from this, concerns about tariffs, delivery problems between London and New York and expectations of a fall in real interest rates have also made silver an attractive investment. Another important indicator is the gold-silver ratio, which has fallen from 82 to 58 in a month. This means that silver may be cheaper than gold, due to which investors may move towards silver.
