As the rain stops and the night sky blankets the rice fields, climbing perch emerge for a quiet migration.

The rice fields come alive late at night in a quiet but distinctive way. After the first heavy rain of the season, climbing perch move with the rising water, taking advantage of the cooler weather and darkness, to migrate to new habitats.

In the middle of the night, go out to the fields to ‘ambush’ the perch

They move silently across the flooded rice fields, slipping through mud and shallow water, seemingly unnoticed. Seasoned fish catchers, however, are already waiting in position, flashlights in hand to spot their catch.

What began as a tiring night in the fields turned into an enjoyable fishing trip, yielding fresh climbing perch and lasting memories.
