Manchester City slipped to one of the worst defeats in their European history, losing 3-1 away to minnows Bodo/Glimt on the latest night to forget for Pep Guardiola's side. City were hoping to shake off Saturday's humiliating loss away to Manchester United, but things got off to a disastrous start when Bodo raced to a two-goal advantage.
City did have chances to reduce the arrears but failed to take them, with Bodo piling on the pressure in the second half and finding an unlikely third. Rayan Cherki hit back immediately for the visitors, but hopes of a comeback were squashed when skipper Rodri picked up two quick-fire yellow cards. Express Sport hands out player ratings after City's loss in Bodo.
Gianluigi Donnarumma - 3
By no means the worst City player on the pitch, but ultimately he shipped three goals (not to mention the two that were ruled out). Pulled off a sharp save with the score at 3-0 to ensure the embarrassment wasn't made worse. Did the same at 3-1.
Rayan Ait-Nouri - 4
Deployed at right-back, but didn't look out of place from an attacking sense. Questionable at times defensively, but who wasn't in that City backline?
Max Alleyne - 2
Caught the eye with his performances after being recalled from loan, but has been shown up in the last two outings. The youngster won't want to watch back his howling error for the Bodo second.
Abdukodir Khusanov - 3
Should've been more alert to danger in and around the box at times. Too weak for the opener.
Nico O'Reilly - 5
Fantastic footwork presented team-mate Cherki with the chance to have a potshot on the edge of the box. Didn't stop running either. One of the few positives.
Rodri - 1
Probably his worst night as a City player. It's been a long road back from injury, but the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner was way off it throughout the 62 minutes he was on the pitch. He'll come back stronger, no doubt.
Rico Lewis - 3
Started the match well and was popping up in some decent pockets, but was unable to make his mark as the match went on.
Tijjani Reijnders - 4
Was always a willing runner and ought to have been picked out more often by his team-mates. Had a couple of half-chances but failed to trouble the keeper.
Rayan Cherki - 6
The best City player on the pitch and the only one who can hold his head relatively high.
Phil Foden - 2
The Englishman looked 'back' earlier in the campaign and perhaps it's a consequence of City's injuries, but he looks a shell of himself once again. Could do with a stint out of the starting Xi.
Erling Haaland - 2
If it wasn't for the two chances he missed, you'd have been forgiven for thinking he wasn't on the pitch. How different things could've been had his strike on the verge of half-time at 2-0 found the back of the net. Alas, it didn't, and it will go down as another performance where the talisman striker went missing.
Substitutes:
Omar Marmoush - 3
Didn't do much when he came off the bench, but at least it's another body in the mix for Guardiola.
