When should a child be sent to preschool?
Dr. Nimisha Arora explains that for most children, the age of 3 is considered the best time to start preschool. By this age, the child becomes a little more understanding, can be separated from their parents for some time, and begins to develop the ability to adapt to a new environment.
Every child is different. Some children seem ready at 2.5 years old, while others are more comfortable in a home environment until 3.5 or 4 years old. Therefore, it is not right to send a child to school early just because of social pressure or pressure from relatives.
Does sending a child to school early make them smarter?
Answering this question, the doctor says, " No. Early schooling does not mean a smarter child. More important than academics is that the child plays, asks questions, listens to stories, and spends time with their parents during childhood. These things help in the child's mental and emotional development.
Therefore, the decision to send a child to preschool should be based on their readiness rather than their age. While 3 years old is generally considered the right age, the most important thing is that the child feels happy, safe, and confident. If the child is not emotionally ready to go to preschool, they may experience fear, crying, anxiety, and insecurity. A happy and secure child learns best. When a child feels safe, they are able to learn new things while playing.
