The IPL 2026 is about to get started on March 26, and its final has been scheduled for May 31. The final clash list is yet to be finalised. In a meeting of the IPL Governing Council on Tuesday, it was resolved that the schedule will be confirmed only after the Election Commission declares polling dates for the impending assembly elections in five states.
The assembly elections are about to take place during April-May in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, and Kerala, as well as the Union Territory of Puducherry.
In accordance with a report by Dainik Jagran, as many as 18 venues have been proposed by the BCCI for the matches to be held during IPL 2026, which include locations in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Assam. Since the Election Commission is yet to declare the polling dates, the final schedule remains on hold.
Venues put forward for IPL 2026:
The report stated that 18 cities are on the list for the matches of IPL 2026 to take place. These include - Delhi, Lucknow, Dharamsala, New Chandigarh, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Navi Mumbai, Visakhapatnam, Guwahati, Jaipur, Bengaluru, Pune, Ranchi, and Raipur.
Ambiguity over Bengaluru and Jaipur
In the meantime, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) have been asked to confirm by January 27 whether they will be able to play their home matches in Bengaluru and Jaipur, respectively, by the IPL Governing Council.
RCB is exploring the opportunity to host its home matches at Navi Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium over the unpredictability of M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The venue of Bengaluru has not hosted any cricket-related activity since a deadly stampede last year.
A succeeding report said that crowd management failure was the issue for the stampede. RCB, in response, has requested the Kerala State Cricket Association (KSCA) for the installation of 300-350 AI-enabled cameras all around the stadium for better crowd management and has also offered to bear the expense of the upgradation.
Whereas, internal disturbance within the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) has prevented it from confirming to the BCCI about hosting IPL matches, which still casts a doubt over Jaipur's status as a venue for the upcoming season.
