India agrees to boost trade and strategic ties with UAE amid regional tensions

Both the countries have set a target of taking mutual trade to more than $200 billion by the year 2032.

India-UAE Strategic Defense Agreement: New chapter in India-UAE relations: 7 important agreements in 3-hour meeting, new momentum for trade. A big deal has been achieved for the Indian economy which is under the pressure of US tariffs. In just three hours of talks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi completed a trade deal worth 200 billion dollars i.e. about Rs 18 lakh crore. This deal has been made with a country which Pakistan considers close to itself. Under this agreement, both the countries have set a path to increase their bilateral trade to 200 billion dollars by 2032.

A day after United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan arrived in Delhi, he held a three-hour meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During this, India and UAE signed an agreement to take their bilateral relations to new heights in the fields of defence, trade, energy and technology. While both Pakistan and America were eyeing this negotiation, the ease with which India completed this agreement must have come as a big surprise and shock to both the countries.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed wrote on the social media platform X that his meeting with Prime Minister Modi today was very positive and the two countries discussed many issues to economic progress. During this period, a trade deal was also signed with India, the aim of which is to strengthen the economic progress and bilateral benefits of both the countries in the future.

At the same time, Prime Minister Modi also shared pictures of his meeting with the UAE President on social media and wrote that he was happy to welcome his brother Sheikh Mohammed. He said that detailed talks were held to further strengthen the economic and political relations between the two countries.

Cooperation in the development of nuclear reactor and modular reactor

Both sides have agreed to the possibility of partnership in advanced nuclear technologies. This will include cooperation in the development of large nuclear reactors and small modular reactors as well as in the operation of nuclear power plants.

Supply of 5 lakh metric tons of LNG every year

Both countries have signed a long-term agreement for the supply of 5 lakh metric tonnes of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) per annum. UAE is the second largest exporter of LNG to India after Qatar.

Decision to establish ‘Supercomputing Cluster’ in the field of AI

Foreign Secretary Misri said that artificial intelligence (AI) has been included among the priority areas of cooperation. Under this, it has been decided to cooperate on setting up a ‘Supercomputing Cluster’ in India in partnership with UAE. Also, the Gulf country will also consider investment to increase data center capacity in India.

Target to reach annual trade to US$ 200 billion by 2032

The Foreign Secretary said that both sides have set a target of increasing annual bilateral trade to US $ 200 billion by 2032. Bilateral trade between India and UAE in the year 2023–24 was US $ 84 billion.

Both countries will also cooperate in defense and space sector

Both sides have expressed their resolve to comprehensively expand defense relations. Foreign Secretary Misri informed that a Letter of Intent (LoI) has been signed with the aim of moving towards finalizing a framework agreement for strategic defense partnership between India and the UAE.

Cooperation in the development of Special Investment Zone in Dholera, Gujarat

A separate document has also been signed to facilitate UAE participation in the development of a ‘Special Investment Zone’ in Dholera, Gujarat, the Foreign Secretary said.

Signing of agreement to food security

Misri said that an agreement to food security has also been signed. This agreement will promote cooperation in the food sector and encourage exports of food and other agricultural products from India to the UAE. The Foreign Secretary said that this will directly benefit Indian farmers.
