Tamil Nadu. Governor R.N. Ravi on Tuesday skipped his customary inaugural speech before the first session of the year in the Assembly and left the chamber in anger. The Governor took this step due to the lack of respect for the national anthem and the inclusion of misleading and unverified information in the speech.
The Governor said his mike was repeatedly switched off and he was not allowed to speak. He warned that insult to the national anthem and disregard for constitutional duties is not acceptable.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin accused the Governor of violating decorum and said it was tantamount to contempt of the Assembly. Raj Bhavan clarified in the press release that the speech did not mention important issues like atrocities against Dalits, education, MSME sector, Gram Panchayat elections and temple management.
The Governor had repeated this incident last year also, when he was accused of insulting the national anthem and the Constitution. This session has become politically tense in view of the upcoming assembly elections.
