Donald Trump’s appointed prosecutor Lindsey Halligan faces massive blow

Lindsey Halligan, the interim U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, has stepped down from her role.

The attorney was handpicked by US President Donald Trump for the district.

The decision was made after Lindsey faced a blistering rebuke from a federal judge declared her term to illegal.

Cameron McGowan Currie ruled in November 2025 that the attorney’s appointment violated the Constitution’s Appointments Clause.

Cameron’s ruling mentioned that Trump administration’s effort to maintain Lindsey as interim U.S. attorney was unlawful.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed the news on X writing that Lindsey’s departure is a huge loss for the Department of Justice.

Pam added “The 36-year-old attorney will continue to serve the country in other ways.”

Earlier, U.S. District Judge David Novak issued an 18-page ruling criticising Lindsey for continuing her term despite the prior court order declaring her appointment invalid.

As per CNNher departure marks the end to a term full of controversial moments including cases targeting the president’s political opponents.
