India began their T20I series against New Zealand with a powerful batting performance at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. After New Zealand chose to bowl first India achieved their greatest T20I score against New Zealand with 238 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs.

 

Abhishek Sharma established the innings when he maintained his excellent T20 performance by scoring 84 runs from 35 balls. He hit 5 fours and 8 sixes and scored at a strike rate of 240.00. His hitting in the powerplay helped India reach 68 runs in the first six overs, putting New Zealand under pressure right from the start.

 

Sanju Samson gave a fast start Ishan Kishan played a small cameo and captain Suryakumar Yadav supported well with 32 off 22 balls. After losing their first two batsmen India maintained their aggressive approach throughout the match.

 

Hardik Pandya maintained the run flow with his quick 25 runs from 16 balls while Rinku Singh ended the match in style by scoring 44 runs from 20 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes. His hitting in the final over pushed India close to 240. Shivam Dube and Axar Patel also contributed runs with their brief batting performances.

 

New Zealand lost control of the game when they gave India 14 extra runs from 14 wide deliveries. Jacob Duffy was the best bowler for New Zealand with 2/27 in 4 overs while Jamieson also picked two wickets but his bowling performance was too expensive.

Daryl Mitchell's final over resulted in 21 runs being scored. Rinku hit 6 6 (wide) 4 dot 4 and punished the bowler for missing lengths. New Zealand also had to keep an extra fielder inside the ring due to slow over rate which helped India score freely.
