Teen hospitalized after targeted stabbing near Calgary high school; suspect in custody
A teenage boy was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after being stabbed on a Calgary Transit bus outside Henry Wise Wood High School in southwest Calgary on Friday(January 16), triggering a school lockdown and a major police response as officers took one suspect into custody.

According to CTV News, police responded to the 900 block of 75th Avenue S.W. after receiving reports of an assault involving a weapon.

Police said one suspect is in custody, and a knife was recovered nearby. While it is unclear if the suspect attends the school, officers believe the individuals were known to each other and that the attack was targeted, not random.

CPS says “they are a similar age.”

Students were told that they noticed someone acting erratically outside the school before later seeing an injured person on the ground near a nearby skate park. Several described a disturbing scene with blood, a heavy police presence, and a police helicopter overhead, saying they were shocked and struggled to comprehend the violence unfolding so close to their school.

The Calgary Board of Education said counselling and support will be offered to students impacted by the incident. The board encouraged students to talk with family members and confirmed that additional resources will be available at the school on Monday.

The lockdown was lifted at 3 pm, with officials confirming all students and staff were safe, though road closures caused traffic delays in the area. Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
