India’s official entry for the Oscars, Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound, is now out of the Academy Awards 2026 race after failing to make it to the final nominees list in the Best International Feature Film category. The development comes as a setback for India’s hopes at the prestigious awards this year.
Homebound, which released in Indian theatres on 26 September 2025, featured Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor in key roles. The film had generated strong buzz owing to its festival run and critical reception, making its exit from the race a disappointment for many observers.
The Oscars nominations were announced as part of the 98th Academy Awards cycle, confirming that Homebound will not progress further in the international feature category.
