South box office report: The South Indian box office saw a clear midweek dip on Thursday, January 22, with most films witnessing sharp drops after respectable opening runs. While a few big-ticket titles continue to anchor the market, newer releases are beginning to feel the heat as weekday fatigue sets in.
While big stars and strong openings continue to cushion the fall for major titles, smaller and mid-scale films are finding it increasingly difficult to stay afloat as the box office gears up for the next wave of releases. Scroll down to read the box office report in detail!
Mana Shankara Varaprasad Garu box office collectionLeading the pack remains Mana Shankara Varaprasad Garu, which continues its strong run despite a visible slowdown. On Day 11, the action-comedy earned Rs 0.13 crore in India net, taking its total collection to an impressive Rs 175.78 crore. Directed by Anil Ravipudi and led by Chiranjeevi Konidala, the film benefited from massive early momentum, especially in the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana belts. While the collections have dipped sharply in the second week, the film remains the highest-grosser among current releases.
Anaganaga Oka Raju box office collectionAnaganaga Oka Raju has also posted solid numbers so far. On Day 9, the Naveen Polishetty starrer added Rs 0.05 crore to its tally, pushing its total to Rs 39.56 crore. After a strong first weekend, the film has gradually slowed down, but it still holds better than most mid-budget releases thanks to positive word of mouth.
Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil box office collectionOn the Tamil front, Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil witnessed one of the sharpest drops. The Jiiva starrer earned just Rs 0.03 crore on Day 8, with its total now standing at Rs 18.8 crore. After a promising opening weekend, weekday collections have fallen rapidly, indicating limited long-term traction.
Vaa Vaathiyaar box office collectionA similar pattern played out for Vaa Vaathiyaar. On Day 9, the Karthi-led comedy added a modest Rs 0.01 crore, taking its total to Rs 8.49 crore. Despite decent early buzz, the film has struggled to sustain footfalls beyond the first week.
Parasakthi box office collectionMeanwhile, Parasakthi, directed by Sudha Kongara, continues to inch forward. The Sivakarthikeyan-led film collected Rs 0.02 crore on Day 13, taking its overall India net to Rs 50.17 crore. The film had a solid first week but has seen steep declines since, a trend common for content-driven dramas once the initial rush settles.
Nari Nari Naduma Murari box office collectionNari Nari Naduma Murari also slowed considerably. The Sharwanand starrer collected Rs 0.03 crore on Day 9, with total earnings at Rs 13.2 crore. After a steady start, the film has now entered a clear downward phase.
