New Delhi: Team India’s Test skipperShubman Gill was dismissed for a two-ball duck on the opening day of the Ranji Trophy match between Punjab and Saurashtra at the Niranjan Shah Stadium Ground C in Rajkot. Gill was playing his first domestic red-ball match after a year, and came to bat at number five after Saurashtra bowled out for 172 runs on Thursday, January 22.
Punjab got off to a poor start and were in big trouble at 73.3 with Harnoor Singh, Uday Saharan and Nehal Wadhera back in the pavilion. Gill, captaining his state team, walked out to bat and was hit on the pads by spinner Parth Bhut. The on-field umpire adjudged him out for LBW.
Punjab are currently placed in the sixth position in Elite Group B with just 11 points after one victory, one loss and three draws in five matches. They will face Karnataka in their final group match on January 29 in Mohali.
Gill is likely to play the match against Karnataka as well, since the Indian Test and ODI skipper is not part of the squad for the ongoing T20I series against New Zealand, as well as the 2026 T20 World Cup.
