WhatsApp is testing 'Group Chat History Sharing' feature for iOS. New members will be able to see up to 100 messages from the last 14 days before joining the group. This will help them understand recent conversations.
California: Popular instant messaging platform WhatsApp is continuously releasing new features. According to a new report, the company is preparing to bring a new feature called 'Group Chat History Sharing' for iPhone users. This feature has started becoming available to iOS beta testers through TestFlight. According to the report by WABetaInfo, this feature will allow new group users to view the chat history of the last 14 days before joining the group. Let us know more about this new WhatsApp feature.
What is this new feature of WhatsApp?
This new option is designed to help new group members understand recent conversations before joining. Until now, users who joined groups couldn't see old messages. They had to ask other group members what had happened so far in the group. But with the arrival of this new feature, new members of the WhatsApp group will be able to see 100 messages up to 14 days old. This will make it easier for new members to understand the purpose of the group and connect with other members.
This is how this feature works
In simple words, while adding a new member to a group, select the 'Add Member' option. Then select the new member from your contacts. After this, the option of 'Share recent messages' will appear at the bottom of the screen. However, when using this feature, a maximum of 100 messages can be shown to a new member. If you want that the new member of the WhatsApp group should see less messages than this, then you can set that also.
Transparency and Security
When the last 100 messages of the group are shared with a new member, all members will be informed through WhatsApp notification. An automatic message will also appear in the chat, telling you who has shared the message. All messages will be sent with end-to-end encryption only.
Stable version may come soon
WhatsApp officials are currently rolling out the group chat history sharing feature in the iOS beta version. However, this feature is not available even in beta for Android users. According to reports, after beta testing the company will release its stable version for iPhone users.
