Lloyds banking group is closing 71 of its branches across the UK this year, with numerous locations shutting for good this month.
The group, which incorporates Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland, announced the closure of 136 more high street branches at the start of 2025, with these all due to complete by the end of March this year. The significant reduction in the group's branch network comes as it accelerates plans to cut costs and digitise services. The group said the way people are banking is changing, with more customers opting to use apps to manage their money, marking a significant shift from in-person banking towards mobile and online services.
Lloyds Banking Group said as well as its apps, customers will still be able to do their everyday banking at Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland branches, more than 11,000 Post Office branches, or banking hubs, and can also use telephone banking.
The closures in 2026 come after a wave of bank closures across the UK last year, with 432 branches shutting their doors for good in 2025, according to analysis from Which?.
These included 105 from NatWest, 101 from Halifax, 95 from Santander, 93 from Lloyds, 24 from the Bank of Scotland, eight from TSB and six from Barclays.
So far this year, a total of 71 bank branches in Lloyds Banking Group have been scheduled to close in 2026, including 40 from Lloyds, 17 from Bank of Scotland and 14 from Halifax.

Lloyds Banking Group is further accelerating its push towards digital services by putting its 67,000-strong workforce through artificial intelligence (AI) training, with all employees expected to complete the course by the end of this year.
All staff will be put through the training regardless of their role or seniority, marking a significant step forward in the bank's digital overhaul.
Lloyds hopes to train its workforce to utilise the technology in their day-to-way work, with the aim of saving time, providing new services for customers and potentially bringing in more money, and has invested several million pounds into such initiatives with the aim of making 100% of its workforce "AI literate" by the end of 2026.
