Victoria Beckham is in the limelight once again. Following fresh allegations from her son, Brooklyn Beckham, regarding her conduct in private, a previous story has re-emerged, presenting a markedly different, though equally striking, portrayal of the former Spice Girl.

The fashion mogul has come under intense scrutiny this week following Brooklyn's eye-opening Instagram post. On Monday, the 26-year-old, the eldest offspring of Victoria and David Beckham, lambasted his parents in a scathing statement. He maintained he'd been "controlled" by them and charged the couple with attempting to "ruin" his marriage to wife Nicola Peltz.

He directed especially harsh criticisms towards his mother, claiming she "cancelled" creating Nicola's wedding gown at the eleventh hour. He further alleged that she branded him "evil" and "hijacked" his first dance with Nicola, before performing "very inappropriately".

These claims have sparked a fresh examination of Victoria's actions at family gatherings - and they are not the first accounts to astonish people with her behaviour at a celebration featuring one of her sons.

Back in 2007, shortly after Sir David's headline-grabbing transfer to LA Galaxy, the Beckhams threw a birthday celebration for one of their children, welcoming the club's squad and their families.

Years afterwards, Carlos Pavon Jr, son of former Galaxy forward Carlos Pavon, remembered that Victoria became the star attraction at the gathering, not merely among the grown-ups, but also among the youngsters.

"I was playing with [Beckham's] son on the inflatable trampoline and we were jumping, and then out of nowhere, I notice the kid's mum comes in, David's wife, Victoria," Pavon Jr told the La Pelota Al DIEZ podcast.

"She started jumping with us and I was like, 'I can't believe I'm doing this with Victoria Beckham,' so I think that was the funniest thing. Everybody saw when she came in and started jumping with us, so when I came out, I think they all saw my surprised face, like, 'Wow, that just happened.' It was really funny."

Friction within the Beckham household has allegedly been brewing for years. Brooklyn's romance with Nicola began in 2019, and the couple became engaged in 2020 before finally marrying in 2022.

Whilst relations were reportedly cordial initially, divisions started to surface in the run-up to the wedding.

A significant point of contention is thought to revolve around the dispute over Nicola's wedding dress. She had originally intended to wear a gown from Victoria's fashion label, but eventually walked down the aisle in a bespoke Valentino design.

According to Brooklyn, the alteration was not voluntary. He claims that Victoria "cancelled making Nicola's dress in the eleventh hour... forcing her to urgently find a new dress."

He has additionally alleged that the evening before the wedding, relatives informed him Nicola was "not blood" and "not family."

Brooklyn further claimed that Victoria branded him "evil" during preparations because he chose to seat his and Nicola's grandmothers at the top table rather than prioritising his parents.

Speculation of a rift started emerging - and whilst efforts to dispel those rumours through multiple joint public outings provided some relief, matters intensified in 2025 when Brooklyn and Nicola opted against attending David's 50th birthday celebration.

Months later, David and Victoria were conspicuously missing from Brooklyn and Nicola's vow renewal ceremony.

"I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private," Brooklyn wrote on Monday. "Unfortunately my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.

"I do not want to reconcile with my family. I'm not being controlled, I'm standing up for myself for the first time in my life. For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family.

"The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into."

He added: "My parents have been trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding, and it hasn't stopped... My wife has been consistently disrespected by my family, no matter how hard we've tried to come together as one. My mum has repeatedly invited women from my past into our lives in ways that were clearly intended to make us both uncomfortable.

On Tuesday, David addressed the controversy publicly. The former England and Manchester United footballer acknowledged that his children had "made mistakes" on social media, whilst emphasising that they are "allowed" to do so - maintaining it forms part of their learning process.

"What kids can access these days, it can be dangerous. But what I have found personally, especially with my kids as well, use it for the right reasons," he told CNBC. "I've been able to use my platform for my following, for UNICEF. And it has been the biggest tool to make people aware of what's going on around the world for children.

"And I have tried to do the same with my children, to educate them. They make mistakes, but children are allowed to make mistakes. That is how they learn. That is what I try to teach my kids."
