One of the country's biggest gas and electricity suppliers is compensating more than 11,000 Brits nationwide. OVO has been ordered by energy regulator Ofgem to pay over £2.7 million in redress due to the supplier being more than 19 months late in making warm home discount payments.
The £2,765,200 is the total amount of at least £150 being paid out to 11,646 customers affected by the late payments. Those impacted will receive £150, with 4,066 customers classed as medically vulnerable getting an additional £150.
Some customers are also entitled to a further £100 for every time they were unable to top up their prepayment meter between March 31 and May 31, 2024, due to not having enough money.
The number of customers classified as vulnerable is 7,726, and according to Ofgem, they have already been contacted and will not need to take any further action. They will be compensated automatically, reports Sky News.
Customers were meant to receive their warm home discount by March 31, 2024, but instead received the rebate in November 2025, over a year later.
Ofgem said: "The delay meant that some of the most vulnerable customers were left without the support they were entitled to during the coldest winter months."
The warm home discount scheme is a one-off £150 discount on electricity bills that suppliers will apply directly to your bill. The initiative is meant to help low-income or vulnerable households during the wintertime.
An Ovo spokesperson said, "We're very sorry that some customers did not receive their Warm Home Discount payments on time. We have worked closely with Ofgem to understand what went wrong and to put measures in place to ensure it does not happen again.
"We did not meet the high standards of service we set for ourselves, and all affected customers have now been compensated."
