WhatsApp is continuously rolling out new features on its platform. In this series, the company has now introduced a new feature called Group Chat History Sharing for iPhone users. The company has started rolling it out for iOS users. Previously, this feature was only available in the Android beta version, but now it has also been rolled out for beta testers on iOS via TestFlight.

What is this new feature?
With this feature, whenever a new member is added to a group, they can receive up to 100 messages from the past 14 days. This means that new members will now be able to easily understand the purpose of the group. Also, there will no longer be a need to ask for screenshots of old messages. The admin or member who added the new user to the group can easily share the recent chat history.

How does the Group Chat History Sharing feature work?
In simple terms, when adding a new member to a group, after selecting the ‘Add Member’ option and then selecting the new member from the contacts, an option to ‘Share Recent Messages’ will appear at the bottom of the screen. From here, users can choose to send up to 100 messages or select fewer messages. The sent messages will appear in a different color for the new member, making them easy to identify.

Transparency and Security
Furthermore, WhatsApp also notifies all members that recent messages have been shared with the new member. An automatic message appears in the chat indicating who shared the messages. All these messages are also sent with end-to-end encryption.
