Kerala:  witnessed a significant moment in its development journey on Friday as Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan formally welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Thiruvananthapuram. The visit marked the launch and inauguration of several important infrastructure and public welfare projects aimed at accelerating economic growth and improving public services across the state. The event highlighted cooperation between the state and central governments and reflected a shared focus on long-term development goals.

Grand Welcome And Vision For Development

Addressing a large gathering in Thiruvananthapuram, Pinarayi Vijayan expressed pride and happiness in hosting Narendra Modi in what he described as “God’s Own Country.” He emphasized that the Prime Minister’s visit was more than ceremonial, as it brought with it a series of projects that are expected to play a crucial role in strengthening Kerala’s infrastructure, innovation ecosystem, and public welfare delivery systems.

Launch Of New Railway Services

One of the key highlights of the visit was the flagging off of four new trains from Thiruvananthapuram. These included three Amrit Bharat Express trains along with one passenger train, aimed at enhancing rail connectivity within Kerala and beyond. Improved rail services are expected to benefit daily commuters, long-distance travelers, and the state’s tourism sector, which relies heavily on efficient transport infrastructure.

The introduction of these trains reflects a broader strategy to modernize railway services while ensuring affordable and accessible travel options for the public.

Infrastructure And Innovation Projects

In addition to railway initiatives, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the CSIR-NIIST Innovation Hub, a project designed to boost scientific research, innovation, and collaboration between industry and academia. This hub is expected to support startups, researchers, and innovators, positioning Kerala as a strong player in knowledge-driven development.

Another important inauguration was the new building of the Poojappura Head Post Office. The upgraded facility aims to improve postal and related services for residents, supporting both traditional communication needs and modern financial and digital services offered through the postal network.

Focus On Public Welfare And Financial Inclusion

The visit also saw the launch of initiatives under the PM SVANIDHI scheme, which targets street vendors and small traders. According to the Chief Minister, the scheme is set to benefit around one lakh beneficiaries in Kerala. As part of the event, credit cards were handed over and loan disbursement cheques were provided to eligible participants, reinforcing the focus on inclusive growth and grassroots economic support.

These measures are expected to help small vendors stabilize their livelihoods, expand their businesses, and gain access to formal financial systems.

Chief Minister Vijayan described the approval and implementation of these projects as a cherished moment for the state government.
