An even bigger shock came when the police came to know that the 'woman' was actually a man, who had tried to trap them by creating a fake identity.

Regarding the incident, police said that the accused Imran Ghazi (34), who is a resident of Mishripur Depot area of Gudamba police station area. He was arrested on Tuesday. According to the complaint lodged by Shalabh Pandey on June 2, 2025, the accused introduced herself as Bhavika Shetty on WhatsApp and started chatting every day. Gradually he convinced Pandey to invest money in a scheme that promised good returns.
Sent Rs 1.92 crore thinking it was a girl
Believing his words, Pandey transferred Rs 1.92 crore to several bank accounts. But later they came to know that they had been cheated. A case has been registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station under Section 66(D) of the Indian Justice Code and Information Technology Act, which deals with committing fraud using computer resources.

Police said that during interrogation, Ghazi revealed that after his account in Axis Bank was frozen, he opened several bank accounts with the help of an associate named Shahzad by making fake Aadhaar and PAN cards, from which he continued to receive the fraudulent money. Investigators found that Rs 54 lakh, fraudulently obtained, passed through Ghazi's accounts, with transactions amounting to around Rs 1.52 crore within a month. Fake identity cards were also recovered from him. Police said that efforts are on to identify and arrest other members involved in the fraud racket.
