Like two flight paths converging mid-air, long-familiar partners are charting a clearer course together.

A Framework for Deeper Skies

Air India has signed a commercial cooperation framework agreement with joint-venture partner Singapore Airlines (SIA), signalling a significant step toward deeper operational and commercial integration. The agreement was signed in Mumbai on Friday by Air India chief executive officer and managing director Campbell Wilson and Singapore Airlines chief executive officer Goh Choon Phong.

Announcing the development, Air India said, “Air India and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have signed a commercial cooperation framework agreement, which will pave the way for them to deepen their long-standing partnership through definitive joint business agreements. This strengthened collaboration allows the airlines to explore ways to improve connectivity between Singapore and India, delivering greater choice and benefits for customers.”

Under the framework, both carriers plan to enhance passenger experience through expanded route options, smoother connections and better-aligned flight schedules. Travellers are expected to benefit from easier itinerary planning, including the ability to book journeys across both airlines as a single, integrated ticket. The cooperation is also aimed at upgrading products and services, reinforcing Air India’s broader transformation efforts as it rebuilds its global network.

Currently, Air India and SIA already codeshare on 61 destinations across 20 countries and territories, forming one of the strongest aviation links between India and Southeast Asia. Singapore Airlines also holds a 25.1 per cent equity stake in the Air India Group, further cementing their strategic relationship.

More Choices for Flyers, Especially Business Travellers

The agreement places special emphasis on business travellers, with plans for cross-participation in the airlines’ corporate travel programmes. The two carriers will also explore expanding reciprocal loyalty benefits beyond existing Star Alliance entitlements for members of Air India’s Maharaja Club and Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer programmes.

In addition, Air India and SIA will examine opportunities to extend their cooperation into select markets beyond India and Singapore, subject to regulatory approvals. “This would meet the growing demand for global connectivity, support traffic flow through both carriers’ hubs, and strengthen the air travel markets of both India and Singapore,” Air India said.

Reflecting on the partnership, Mr. Wilson said, “Air India remains committed to expanding its global footprint. We are pleased to take our valued, long-term relationship with Singapore Airlines to the next level through this new commercial cooperation understanding, which establishes a clear and structured platform for both airlines to explore and define future areas of closer collaboration.”

Mr. Phong added, “It is a strategic, win-win collaboration that will strengthen connectivity between Singapore and India, support the growth of air travel and tourism in both countries, and deepen their long-standing business and people-to-people ties.”

As networks align and schedules fall into rhythm, the journey between India and Singapore is set to feel more seamless than ever.
