Mangaluru: National-level kabaddi player and cricketer Aakanksha M Rao is gaining recognition among coastal audiences through her debut on the silver screen with the Tulu film Kattemar. She plays the role of Bhavya in the film, directed by Sachin Katla and Rakshith Ganiga.

Before entering films, Aakanksha had represented at the national level in kabaddi and is also known to be skilled in cricket. Along with sports, she has shown interest in modelling from her college days. She won the Showstopper title at the Miss Karnataka 2024 pageant, after which she received the opportunity to act in Kattemar.

In the film, Aakanksha appears in a different look, which she says even made it difficult for some of her friends to recognise her. She revealed that initially she was not selected during the first audition, with the makers feeling she did not suit the role. After changing her look and auditioning again, she was selected for the character.

Aakanksha said she prepared for the role by practising at home before the shoot, even though the character was limited in screen time. She stated that she aimed to give her best performance and is interested in taking up strong and meaningful roles in the future.

She has also received an offer to act in a Kannada television serial. However, she has not accepted it yet as she is currently pursuing her degree. She said she would consider acting opportunities if she comes across a good story.

With Kattemar, Aakanksha M Rao has entered the film industry, marking a new phase in her career that spans sports, modelling and cinema.
