The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) spent their biggest amount at the 2026 Indian Premier League Auction when they bought Prashant Veer, who currently plays for the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy team. He suffered the injury while playing for Uttar Pradesh and needed to leave the game. CSK purchased the young all-rounder for ₹14.20 crore, which made him one of the most discussed uncapped players from the auction.
ESPN Cricinfo reports that the injury occurred during a group stage match against Jharkhand. Prashant Veer stopped the ball with a dive at mid-off, but landed on his shoulder in a bad way. The player managed to save the runs, but he suffered a severe injury. The medical team treated him on the field while they used pain relief sprays. He had to leave the field to undergo additional medical assessment. His return to the field carrying a sling caused fans and CSK major concern.
His injury requires approximately three weeks of recovery time according to the first update. The extended recovery time will prevent him from achieving his fitness target before CSK begins their 2026 Indian Premier League campaign. The IPL 19th edition will be held immediately after the 2026 T20 World Cup, but the complete schedule remains unavailable. His rehabilitation process requires him to become match-ready within a limited time frame.

Prashant's Rise Before the Injury
The 2026 IPL Auction in Abu Dhabi named Prashant Veer as one of its top discussion topics. He became the most expensive uncapped player when CSK and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) fought hard for him. CSK won the bidding because they want to create their future team beyond their existing players Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin. His ability to bowl spin and also bat lower down the order made him very valuable.
The auction led Prashant Veer to play for Uttar Pradesh in the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy. He formed a strong spin attack with Vipraj Nigam and Zeeshan Ansari. He took 10 wickets in eight matches while recording a 36.90 average and 5.19 economy rate. He took a wicket during each match, which helped Uttar Pradesh reach the quarter-finals.
His batting performance produced various helpful innings. His scoring performance against Jammu and Kashmir became one of his best matches because he scored 37 runs off 18 balls. He completed four matches without losing his wicket and recorded a tournament strike rate of 120.90.
CSK fans expected him to become a long-term player after he showed strong bowling and batting skills. His short-term plans now face uncertainty because of his shoulder injury.
Prashant Veer will focus on his recovery to achieve fitness as soon as possible. CSK fans and Uttar Pradesh cricket followers will hope that he returns before the IPL starts. His injury has brought concern, but his talent and recent form show he has the potential for a bright future once he recovers.
