Kolkata: Suspended Trinamool MLA Humayun Kabir said on Friday that he is open to an alliance with BJP if he is made the chief minister candidate. At the same time, he has given a call for an alliance with the Congress, CPI-M and ISF. However, they are yet to respond to this.

Kabir said on Friday, "If BJP assures me that I will be chief minister if voted to power, I am even ready to enter into an alliance with them. If I get 100 seats and BJP gets 90, who will become the chief minister?" Kabir cited the example of Nitish Kumar becoming the chief minister in Bihar. Following this, Trinamool Congress leaders said they have always said that Kabir was working as a B-Team of BJP.

Responding to Kabir's comments, BJP leader Jagannath Chattopadhyay said BJP will never enter into an alliance with a communal leader who had said that the Hindus will be killed and their bodies thrown into the Bhagirathi. However, it was good that the minorities have faith in BJP.

In the last week of December, Kabir announced formation of his own party - 'Janata Unnayan Party' - and announced the names of several candidates for 2026 assembly polls.
