Brooklyn Beckham shocked the world this week with a bombshell Instagram outburst against his parents. The 26-year-old accused David and Victoria of "controlling" him, while Posh was also alleged to have "danced inappropriately" on Brooklyn at his wedding.

But Manchester United and England icon husband David knows exactly what some ex-team-mates think of his wife. Rumours of a familial rift within the Beckham clan have swirled since Brooklyn's 2022 wedding ceremony, when he married actress Nicola Peltz.

Birthday snubs and reported social media blocks followed before the power couple's eldest released a scathing statement online, which included accusations against both of his parents. He specifically accused mother Victoria of trying to "ruin" his relationship with Peltz, "hijacking" his first dance with her at his wedding and making him feel "uncomfortable" and "humiliated" with the "inappropriate" dancing.

Reports suggest that Victoria is heartbroken by her son's public accusations. Husband David responded to the claims levied at him and his wife, but two of his former team-mates for the Three Lions have already provided a glimpse into Victoria's true personality.

Wayne Rooney is himself a United icon, but he never played alongside David for the Manchester club. He did, however, make 39 appearances for his country with the midfielder.

Speaking on his The Wayne Rooney Show, the 40-year-old was asked if he ever met the Beckham family and he recalled a time he and his partner went round to their house for dinner during David's time with Real Madrid

"We met up with Becks and Victoria, me and Coleen, when he was at Madrid and went for dinner and we were having kebabs," said Rooney. "He's obviously a great lad and Victoria's such a lovely woman and funny. A lot funnier than people would think."

Michael Owen also starred next to David for the Three Lions but made a handful of appearances alongside him at club level for Real Madrid. One incident that came on the back of the 1998 World Cup helps paint a picture of how Victoria acts towards her husband, who did not enjoy the best of competitions.

Both Owen and Beckham were key members of the England squad that reached the last 16 that year, before a fateful encounter with Argentina. Beckham was infamously sent off in the eventual penalty loss for a kick aimed at Diego Simeone.

Owen's tournament was grand in contrast. He scored the second goal in the Argentina defeat and converted his spot kick. But Beckham was transformed into a national villain for his sending off.

In his autobiography, Owen writes that he later found out Victoria was annoyed with him for not publicly backing David after the red card. This anecdote portrays Victoria as fiercely protective of her husband and family.

"I got wind that Victoria was in some way disappointed in me," Owen penned. "She felt, I was told, that while all the limelight was on me after the World Cup, I should have publicly and voluntarily come out and backed David.

"I didn't consider myself senior enough to pat David Beckham - twenty times more famous than I was at the time - on the back and say, 'Keep your chin up, mate'.

"Whether I thought his actions lost us the game or not didn't matter. For me, at that time, it was about hierarchy and standing. I was just a junior member of that squad. I was really just a kid."
