New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) successfully conducted the day 3 shift 1 of the JEE Main 2026 session 1 exam today, January 23. The exam was held for a duration of three hours following the standard computer-based test (CBT) format. As per the candidates of JEE Main, day 3 shift 1 exam was easy to moderate in difficulty level. The maths section was lengthy questions, while chemistry was balanced and physics was easy.
While the January 23 exam shift 1 exam has concluded detailed candidate reactions, subject-wise difficulty analysis, and expert feedback are being released. Coaching institutes and education portals publish paper analysis and student responses.
According to the official schedule, candidates are set to appeared for Paper 1 (BE or BTech) exams in the morning and afternoon shifts. Security arrangements and exam-day protocols were implemented at all centres to ensure smooth conduct of the exam.
JEE Main session 1 day 3 shift 1 subject-wise difficulty levelPhysics – This section was easy in difficulty level. Most of the questions were concept- and formula-based.
Chemistry- This section was balanced. Most questions were straightforward and a few were tricky ones.
Mathematics- 7 to 8 questions were lengthy and time-consuming.

Physics- Reportedly easy to moderate in difficulty. Questions were mostly conceptual and formula-based, allowing easier marks for those with clear fundamentals. Few lengthy or tricky numericals focused more on standard NCERT topics. Typical student feedback suggests good scoring potential here. Chemistry- Also moderate and NCERT-aligned. Most questions were straightforward, with a balanced mix of theory and numerical problems. Many candidates found this section scoring with clear preparation. Mathematics- Generally moderate but slightly time-consuming due to multi-step problems. Candidates noted the Mathematics section took more time than Physics and Chemistry, though not extremely difficult. Quick calculation speed and time management helped. JEE Main session 1 exam dateThe JEE Main 2026 aession 1 exam is being conducted from January 21 to January 29. It is a qualifying exam for JEE Advanced 2026 as well as for admission to National Institute of Technology’s (NITs), Indian Institute of Information Technology’s (IIITs) and other centrally funded technical institutions. Performance in JEE Main also plays a crucial role in seat allocation through the JoSAA counselling process.
The NTA has advised candidates to regularly check the official JEE Main website for updates regarding answer keys, response sheets and result announcements. The provisional answer key is expected to be released after the conclusion of all the exams.
