Kech: A late-night operation in the Reko area of Buleda, located in Pakistan’s Kech district, has triggered renewed concern over the long-standing issue of enforced disappearances in Balochistan. According to family members, a teenage boy was taken away by security personnel during the raid, leaving his relatives distressed and without any official information about his whereabouts.

Late-Night Operation in Buleda

Family members said the incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. when a large number of security personnel entered their neighborhood and surrounded the house of a local resident, Lal Jan. They alleged that the operation created panic in the area, with women and children being intimidated during the search. The teenager was reportedly taken away without any arrest warrant or explanation, adding to the family’s fear and confusion.

Relatives stated that the forces did not clarify the reasons for the detention, nor did they disclose where the minor was being taken. Since that night, the family claims they have received no official communication from authorities regarding the boy’s condition or location.

Family’s Silence and Growing Anxiety

Initially, the family chose not to approach the media or rights groups. Local elders had reportedly assured them that the teenager would be released shortly, encouraging patience and restraint. However, more than ten days have passed, and there has been no update or confirmation from any state institution.

As time went on, the family’s anxiety deepened. With no access to legal remedies or official records of arrest, they now fear that the teenager may have become a victim of enforced disappearance, a phenomenon that has long troubled the region.

Allegations of Past Targeting

Relatives also claimed that this was not the first time the teenager had faced threats or violence. They alleged that last year he was assaulted while grazing goats by an influential individual who claimed connections with state institutions. Due to financial constraints and fear of retaliation, the family did not file a formal complaint at that time.

Now, with the teenager missing, the family has appealed to authorities to clarify the reasons for his detention and ensure his safe and immediate return. They argue that if any allegations exist, due legal process should be followed transparently.

Ongoing Protests in Quetta

The incident comes amid continued protests in Quetta over missing persons. A long-running protest camp outside the local press club has drawn attention to similar cases across Balochistan. Recently, families of two more men joined the demonstration, alleging that their relatives were detained by security personnel in the Sariab Customs area late last year and have not been seen since.

Protest organizers stated that attempts to register police cases regarding these disappearances were unsuccessful. They further alleged that senior officials have failed to provide explanations or updates, intensifying frustration among affected families.

Calls for Legal Accountability

Activists involved in the protest movement have reiterated their demand that all detainees be presented before courts if charges exist. They emphasize that any detention must comply with constitutional safeguards and legal procedures. Rights groups say they plan to raise these cases with relevant commissions and provincial authorities, as well as at national forums.

The latest incident in Kech has once again highlighted concerns over transparency, rule of law, and human rights in Balochistan, with families continuing to seek answers and accountability.
