'Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate' is doing very well at the box office and is also getting a lot of love from audiences after its Hindi release. Actor Shruhad Goswami who plays a key role in the film recently spoke about why 'Laalo' feels so real and close to the heart. In an exclusive chat with ETimes, he shared why the film kept Gujarati lines even in its Hindi release.

Shruhad made it clear that Laalo is deeply connected to Gujarat. The film is made in Gujarati and is set in Junagadh, a city in Gujarat. According to him, changing the language fully would have taken away the soul of the story.

Shruhad Goswami on why Gujarati was retained in the Hindi version of 'Laalo'



Talking about the language choice, Shruhad told us, "We made this film in Gujarati and it's a story of Gujarat. The story of a city in Gujarat, Junagadh. We had a simple thought that if anyone who is watching this film from Gujarat, who has never been to Gujarat or Junagadh, if they watch this film, they will feel that if they go to Junagadh and ask a rickshaw driver, then the dialogues spoken in the film will be in the same language."

He added that Gujarati slang was used on purpose. "That's why we have used Gujarati slang in between. So that the Hindi audience can understand the dialogues and the Gujarati accent of Junagadh."

Shruhad summed it up by saying, "That's why we have kept Gujarati lines in between. I think the answer to this is that this film is beyond language. Because there is a lot of emotion in it."

Shruhad Goswami on how emotions matter more than words

Shruhad strongly believes that emotions do not need translation. He said that feelings are what truly connect people to a story. "Emotions talk a lot. They make you feel something."

He further shared, "So, no matter what the language is, the scene that the film is conveying to you is beyond language." According to him anyone can connect to 'Laalo' even if they do not understand every word.

He ended this thought by saying, "Emotions are universal. So, it will definitely connect with you." This belief seems to be working, as audiences from different places are responding warmly to the film.

Hindi dubbing of 'Laalo' but Gujarati feel stays alive

Shruhad also spoke about the Hindi dubbing process of Laalo. He explained how careful the team was while dubbing the film. "In the Gujarati film, we mostly did sync sound. We have dubbed it in very few places."

When it came to the Hindi version they did not want to lose the original feel. "But when we were dubbing in Hindi, we ensured that we were dubbing in Hindi, because we were dubbing in Hindi, but there should be an essence of Gujarati language."

Joshi made it clear that the goal was to keep the film honest. "It should feel like a Gujarati film. So, it should be consistent."

That is why the accent was kept. "That's why we have deliberately kept an accent in it. And there are no other changes,' the 'Laalo' star concluded. About 'Laalo'

'Laalo' is directed by Ankit Sukhiya and it hit the big screens on October 10 last year. The film tells the story of a rickshaw driver who is trapped in a farm house and confronts his past demons. He also gets visions of Lord Krishna. The film has Karan Joshi, Reeva Rachh, Shruhad Goswami and Kinnal Nayak in lead.
