The application process for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMS) for economically weaker but academically bright students for the academic session 2026 is about to begin. Online applications for this scheme will be accepted from January 26, 2026. The last date for application is February 15, 2026. Students from Bihar can apply through the official website of SCERT Bihar, scert.bihar.gov.in.

This scholarship exam is specifically conducted for students studying in class 8. Through this examination, 5,433 students from Bihar and more than one lakh students from across the country are selected. Selected students receive financial assistance for their further studies so that the lack of money does not hinder their education.

The examination under this scheme will be held on March 8, 2026. Admit cards for the students appearing in the exam will be available from March 5 until the date of the examination. This time, an important change has been made: school principals have also been given the responsibility of ensuring that eligible students from their schools fill out the applications so that no deserving student is left out.

There are very basic rules for who can apply for this scholarship. Only students studying in government or government-aided schools are eligible to apply. In addition, the student must have passed class 7 with at least 55 percent marks. A 5 percent relaxation is given to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and differently-abled students. The final selection will be based on a written examination conducted by SCERT.

There will be two papers of 90 marks each.
The provisional answer key will be released on March 9, 2026, after the examination. If any student has an objection to the answer key, they can register their objection by March 13. The examination pattern is also predetermined. It will consist of two papers: the Mental Ability Test (MAT) and the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). Both papers will be of 90 marks each. General category students will need to score a minimum of 40 marks in total for selection, while SC/ST and differently-abled students will require a minimum of 32 marks.

Rs. 12,000 will be awarded annually.
The examination will be conducted in two shifts. The first shift will be from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM for the MAT (Mental Ability Test), and the second shift will be from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM for the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test). Visually impaired and students with writing disabilities will be given an additional 30 minutes. This scheme is run by the Government of India, under which selected students receive a scholarship of Rs. 12,000 per year from class 9th to 12th.
